I had the absolute honor of joining my dear sister, First Lady Dr. Karri Bryant, for a deeply needed conversation on The Power of Sabbath and Rest. What a day it was! In a world that constantly tells us to keep pushing, keep producing, and keep saying yes, we came together to speak a different truth. We declared that our value is not measured by our busyness. We acknowledged how often we reschedule our joy, push peace to the back burner, and delay happiness while pouring ourselves empty for everyone else. That day, God reminded us all that He calls us to pause, to pour back into ourselves, and to embrace stillness as a source of strength and rest as a wellspring of revelation.
Within the sacred flow of New Birth’s Sabbath series, we explored what it truly means to rest in God. Together, we held space for the hard truth: so many of us are not exhausted from our assignments but from the unnecessary yeses we keep giving away. We spoke about the high cost of overcommitment, the life-giving power of healthy boundaries, and the fact that Sabbath is not a suggestion—it is a divine command. Rest is not laziness; it is obedience. It is not indulgence; it is spiritual alignment. It is God’s way of restoring our minds, renewing our hearts, and refueling our purpose so that we can serve from a place of abundance instead of depletion.
As I looked across the room and into the eyes of the women and men listening, I could see the weight lifting. People were giving themselves permission to breathe again. To say no without guilt. To reclaim Sunday mornings not just as a ritual but as a rhythm of the soul. That day, we didn’t just talk about rest—we experienced it. We stepped into a holy pause, the kind of stillness that makes you hear God’s whisper more clearly. And my prayer is that every person walked away with a renewed commitment to honor their own Sabbath, not just once a week, but as a lifestyle. Because when you protect your rest, you protect your anointing. Rest is holy. Rest is a weapon. Rest is your God-given right.
